While this shedding of skin is a natural process that the body uses to encourage new and healthy skin growth on the scalp, the overproduction of dandruff can become a problem. When the body starts to shed too much skin it will leave unsightly dandruff flakes throughout the hair and even on the shoulders, which can lead to some embarrassing situations.<span id="more-324"></span></p>
<p>If you suffer from dandruff and your special shampoo just isn&#8217;t cutting it, then it may be time to incorporate some homemade dandruff remedies into your daily routine. Your mileage may vary with these&#8230;some may provide instant relief while others may not have any positive effect at all. The good thing is that they are cheap and easy to try in the comfort of your home and can offer your scalp a much needed break from the harsh chemicals often found in dandruff shampoo.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Apple Cider Vinegar</strong></span></p>
<p>In many cases, dandruff is caused by an abundance of yeast on the scalp. This yeast naturally has a very basic PH level that can be easily neutralized with something acidic. Apple cider vinegar provides this acidity along with other nourishing, natural ingredients that can help to curb dandruff in as little as one application. Mix water and apple cider vinegar at a 1:1 ratio and apply to the scalp with a spray bottle. Let it soak in for about twenty minutes and then wash it out. Apple cider vinegar is pretty acidic so you should only do this once or twice a week.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Baking Soda</strong></span></p>
<p>In some cases, dandruff can be caused by an over-abundance of a fungus called malassezia which occurs naturally on the scalp of humans. Under normal circumstances, this fungus will cause no problems. When there is too much, though, dandruff will occur. Baking soda works as an abrasive and anti-fungal, and when applied to the scalp can help to literally scrub away this fungal problem. When you take a shower, instead of using shampoo use a liberal amount of baking soda instead. Massage it into your scalp just as you would with shampoo, then rinse cleanse. While this may leave you with slightly drier hair for awhile, eventually your body will adjust and compensate by producing more sebum, which is the natural oil that is excreted from the scalp.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Lemon Juice</strong></span></p>
<p>An even cheaper and easier alternative to apple cider vinegar is the juice from a lemon. Like vinegar, the acidity from this citrus fruit will help to neutralize the yeast that may be causing your dandruff problem. Squeeze a few lemons into a bowl and apply the pure lemon juice to your scalp. A few tablespoons should be enough. Leave the juice on your scalp for about thirty minutes before washing it out. You can also mix the lemon juice in a 1:1 ratio with water and rinse your hair with it every time you take a shower.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Coconut Oil</strong></span></p>
<p>Another cheap and great smelling alternative to help relieve dandruff naturally is coconut oil, which is another natural anti-fungal that can help to bring some moisture to scalps that are dried out and shedding too much dead skin. It&#8217;s always good to get the purest form of coconut oil that you can find so if you&#8217;re having trouble finding some, head to a local health food store.</p>
<p>You won&#8217;t need much, just a teaspoon or two depending on how severe your dandruff problem is. Gently massage the oil into your scalp using your fingertips. Try to concentrate on only getting the oil on the scalp, as this is where the problem lies. If you get too much coconut oil on your hair it will leave it looking greasy. Once you have saturated your scalp, let the oil sit for 20-30 minutes before thoroughly washing it out. Coconut oil will not damage your hair or scalp, so you can repeat this treatment once or twice a day if you&#8217;d like.</p>

Getting a massage on a regular basis can also help with other ailments you may be experiencing, such as high blood pressure, poor circulation and even anxiety. <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Aromatherapy Massage</strong></span></p>
<p>Considered to be one of the most relaxing experiences, the aromatherapy massage is an excellent stress reliever that uses the client&#8217;s choice of essential oils which are massaged into the skin.  Common choices of oils include lavender, chamomile, rosemary, eucalyptus and tea tree oil.  Depending on where you get your massage, there will most likely be more options.  Each of these oils have different effects on the body; some induce a more calming effect while others are good for helping to cleanse the body of toxins.  Be sure to ask your therapist what each of these oils are known for and be sure to smell them first.  The last thing you want to have to deal with during your relaxing massage is a smell that your nose can&#8217;t handle!</p>
<p>Another thing to keep in mind about aromatherapy massage is that it&#8217;s probably not a good idea to get one if you have a history of developing skin rashes.  Essential oils are not an everyday thing, so your skin may not react well.  If you have any other kind of sensitive skin condition, the oils may exasperate the problem so be sure to talk to your therapist about it beforehand.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Swedish Massage</strong></span></p>
<p>This is a very popular style of massage that is great for newcomers.  The massage therapist will often use massage oil or cream to moisten the skin, then begin massaging with long, gliding strokes which are known as &#8220;effleurage stokes&#8221;.  This will warm and loosen the muscles up, increasing the person&#8217;s circulation and allowing the therapist to continue on with the massage using firmer and deeper strokes.</p>
<p>As we continue with our Swedish massage, the therapist will no doubt move on to to &#8220;petrissage&#8221;, which is basically a stroke technique that consists of kneading and lifting the skin and tissue.  Petrissage will continue to warm the tissue up, making it more pliable and easier to work with as the massage progresses.  Friction will come next, and the therapist will begin applying pressure to the muscles, generating heat using circular, rubbing hand motions.  Friction will help to deeply massage the actual muscle fibers.</p>
<p>Vibration and percussion are two more techniques that most Swedish massage therapists will use to get more blood flowing to the tissue being massaged.  During vibration, the therapist will vigorously shake the tissue while applying compression with their hands which will allow blood to circulate more freely in the area.  Percussion is a method that consists of a light pounding of the tissue by using either a chopping motion, a closed fist or a cupped hand.  This technique is also great from bringing blood to the surface of the tissue to insure that the massage is more effective.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Hot Stone Massage</strong></span></p>
<p>This type of massage uses hot rocks to bring heat to the client&#8217;s body.  These smooth rocks come in all sizes and are heated up in water before use.  Special oils will be used to allow the heat from the rocks to conduct better with the tissue.  Like almost every other massage, the therapist will first warm the skin up using long and steady strokes.  From there, they will move on with the hot stones, using them as an extension to their hands, massaging the whole body gently but firmly with the rocks.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Thai Massage</strong></span></p>
<p>Thai massage is an excellent way to increase flexibility in the long term and is also an amazing way to ease muscle soreness.  This type of massage is rather unique and more interactive than most.  The therapist places the client in different poses not unlike yoga, using a series of rhythmic pushing, pulling and stretching motions to loosen muscles and ease soreness.  Sometimes the therapist will even walk on the back of the client in order to work out the trouble areas using pressure from their own body weight.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Deep Tissue Massage</strong></span></p>
<p>While probably not quite as relaxing as other types of massage, deep tissue massages are usually sought out by people who are looking to alleviate some kind of pain, tension or muscle soreness.  For this reason, it is a very popular with athletes and other people who lead active lifestyles that commonly result in injury.  If you&#8217;ve never received this kind of massage, it may be a good idea to confirm that the therapist you are using has an actual license in massage therapy because there is a risk of injury if the person doesn&#8217;t know what they are doing.</p>
<p>A deep tissue massage will start out with long, smooth strokes of gradually increasing pressure to warm up the tissue.  This is a very important first step and assures that the tissue is actually ready for the deeper strokes that will follow.  If you are not fully relaxed and warmed up, there is a slight risk of tissue damage so be sure to tell your therapist if you are experiencing pain at ANY time during the massage.</p>
<p>The therapist will most likely use their elbows and forearms while also using their own body weight to continue the massage, working out muscle pain and stiffness with harder and deeper strokes.  As the strokes continue to increase in intensity, the blood will flow to the tissue even more which is what promotes healing of sore muscles.</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>What Happens During An Allergic Reaction</strong></span></p>
<p>The body&#8217;s immune systems is very advanced and is extremely effective at fighting off bacteria and viruses by producing antibodies and other chemicals to thwart the invading pathogens.  Sometimes, though, the body gets it wrong.  During an allergic reaction, the body&#8217;s immune system perceives normal, harmless everyday substances as a threat and will try to fight these off as it would fight off any other virus or bacteria.  The immune system will produce a substance known as histamines which help the body&#8217;s white blood cells become mobile to fight off the pathogens. <p>Allergy shots take advantage of immunotherapy, a method used to desensitize the body to the allergens that are causing the reaction.  Immunotherapy works by building up the body&#8217;s tolerance to an allergy naturally.  By introducing actual samples of the allergen and increasing the amount gradually over time, the body will eventually become tolerant of the perceived pathogen.  The exposure to the allergen will be massively diluted and shouldn&#8217;t cause any kind of allergic reaction at all.  The ultimate goal is to get the body to adapt and begin to perceive the allergens as harmless.</p>
